At Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) which finished the summer placement season for its 23rd Post Graduate Program (PGP) batch of 2019-2021 – Amazon emerged as the top recruiter with a most noteworthy number of offers at 19. All in all, 131 companies gave offers to 462 students with the highest stipend being at Rs 3, 20,000 for the 2 months internship in IIM Kozhikode placements. The average remained at Rs 175,000 and median stipend remained at Rs 2, 00,000.
Sales and Marketing saw the biggest recruitment on campus with around 37 % of students accepting offers from companies like Samsung, Reckitt Benckiser, Pidilite, Kohler, ITC, HUL, Colgate-Palmolive, Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints, and AB InBev. In consulting, around 12 per cent of students got jobs from companies like PwC, EY, Deloitte USI, Boston Consulting Group and Accenture Strategy.
The banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) segment picked up sixteen per cent of students got jobs in equity research, quantitative research and investment banking from companies like State Street, JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Duff & Phelps, Credit Suisse, Citi Bank and Axis Bank. At the same time, many private equity (PE) firms Multiples Alternate Asset Management and The Rohatyn Group made 1 and 2 offers, individually, there was an increase in corporate finance jobs from different companies including L&T, Tata Sky, Colgate Palmolive and HUL.
IT and Analytics received offers from a mix of technology companies like Walmart Labs, Microsoft, Amazon AWS, American Express, just as from in-house divisions of FMCG companies Mondelez and HUL. Simultaneously, operations jobs were offered by usual recruiters like Uber, Blackbuck and Amazon along with new recruiters like Ola and Cure. Fit.
Major business houses and conglomerates like Tata Administrative Services, RPG Group, Reliance, Mahindra, Capgemini, Airtel and Aditya Birla Group offered general management or leadership development jobs to sixteen per cent of students.
New recruiters taking part in IIM Kozhikode placements included Ola, Duff and Phelps, Udaan and Walmart Labs. Amazon, Accenture Strategy, Asian Paints, Axis Bank, EY, Goldman Sachs, HUL, ITC, JP Morgan Chase, PwC, Pidilite, Shell, Uber, TAS, and Udaan were among the top recruiters giving around 128 offers to around 27 percent of the batch. Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode additionally got benefited from its alumni pool in the summer placement process, whose contribution represented 31 percent of all offers, up from twenty percent in last season.
IIM Kozhikode placements in the summer season saw the effective placement of largest batch, comprising of 35 per cent non-engineers and 30 percent women in the first year batch. The best three features of the procedure included an increase in alumni involvement in their companies’ processes, successful placement of the largest and most diverse batch and an increase in coveted private equity and other finance roles, said Shovan Chowdhury, Chairperson, placements at IIM Kozhikode.
Debashis Chatterjee, Director at IIM Kozhikode also said that the summer placements this year have made unparalleled success. All the offers from recruiters were triumphantly converted by the students. Thinking about the unpredictability of the economy, recruiters will undoubtedly be reluctant, however, the merit of the students attracted a bigger list of companies to the campus, he further added.
