In these uncertain times of Covid-19, the phrase “change is the only constant” has started making a lot more sense. Navigating the new post-COVID-19 world will require you to meet the needs of a post-COVID-19 job market. Keeping this in mind, the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Vivekananda Global University (VGU) launched a unique mentorship program, “Craftsman of Change” in partnership with Edinbox where all leaders who have gone on to achieve success in their respective fields were requested to share their knowledge with budding professionals.


As a step towards this initiative, an e-conference ‘The Media 4.0 E-Commerce – Media for New Normal’ was organized by VGU on 14th June 2020. Through this knowledge sharing webinar with some highly competent professionals belonging to the Media & Education industry, the aim was to be able to provide some insights into mass communication and give career counselling to students who wish to pursue a career in this field. The highlight of the event organized by  leading BJMC college in Jaipur was the e-conference on 3 different topics followed by 2 workshops in the evening, the details for which are mentioned below:

  • Mr. Madan Mohit Bhardwaj, CEO- News Leaks Centre, Founder SHEWINGS, Ex NDTV, India TV shed some light on how the pandemic has affected journalism and media houses. 


  • Mr Ashutosh Sharma, Product Head- ABP News, Ex Product Head CNN News18 discussed how the content is churned out for the social media.


  • Prof. Ujjwal Choudhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Adamas University. Ex Dean Symbiosis & Amity Universities spoke about the different channels of media being Offline media, Air media, Online media, On ground media, and Mobile media.  


  • Mr. Shankar V. Subramaniam, Business Head, The Hindu, Tamil Nadu emphasised how social media has its own pros and cons and how it has made it possible for one particular product to reach a wider audience. 


  • Mr. Sidharth Zarabi, Editor – BTVI spoke about how one can make the best use of social media for journalism in case of fake news being circulated on the platform.


  • Mr. Chaitanya Chinchlikar, Vice President- Whistling Woods International, Vice President- Mukta Arts talked about people coming into media education with unrealistic expectations. 


  • Mr. Varun Rai, CEO, Founder- Bawandarr- He discussed the importance of communication in the school itself to give the students a better understanding of how media works. 


  • Prof. KG Suresh, ex-DG {IIMC}, currently Dean, School Of Modern Media, UPES Dehradun spoke about how education has switched to online mode as a result of which the re-opening is going to see a lot of changes. 


  • Mr. Varun Gupta, CEO Max Marketing spoke about how a lot of students want to go into media due to the glamour and how it is a very diligent profession. 


  • Mr. Prashant Nanda, Sr Journalist emphasized on the impact of the pandemic on the print form of media. He talked about how content is the king and writing a piece requires a conscious effort of reading, understanding, and comprehension.


  • Mr. Sameer Rathi, Motivational Speaker, Youtube Sensation spoke about how one should be looking at the positive side and opportunities and how COVID-19 has created a number of opportunities on digital platforms.


  • Mr. Shubham Watta, CEO Twigz Network. Founder – EntranceCorner (Acquired by Careers360) talked about the qualities that a media student must be equipped with to become an entrepreneur. 


  • Mr. Sunil Rao, Academic Coordinator, NextGen Courses, VGU discussed the role of fake news coming into play on social media with co-panelists.


Overall, it was an informative session with participation from every nook and corner of the country. Hopefully, this session will serve as a starting point for the careers of many media aspirants and help them make the right choice.
