Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) recently announced the increase of examination fees for Class X and XII. The changes in the fee structure have doubled for the general category. The SC and ST students who were earlier paying Rs. 50/- will now be paying Rs.1,200/- and the general category students will be paying Rs.1500/- for five subjects.
The registration fees are usually paid by the students a year before. The students who have already paid the fees previously are now instructed to pay the difference amount. The fee structure has been hiked 24 times more than what it was.
The SC and ST previously did not pay any fees for the additional subjects for the board exam of class XII. They will now be paying Rs.300. The general category students who were earlier paying Rs.150 will now have to pay Rs.300. Visually impaired students are exempted from paying the examination fees.
The others, however, if they fail to pay the CBSE examination fees will not be able to appear for exams of the year 2019-20.
Migration fees have also been increased from Rs.150 to Rs.350. Students from the CBSE school boards have to pay Rs.10,000 for five subjects for both class X and class XII the same was earlier Rs.5000/-. The additional subject in class XII fees has been increased from Rs.1000/- to Rs.2000/-
The fee structure for both the board exams has changed almost 24 times from what it was and is going to pose a challenge to the economically backward classes. Even though the SC and ST category pays much lesser than the general category they will still have to pay an enormous amount of money for their class X and XII students.
