The Ministry of Human Resource Development recently organized Smart India Hackathon 2019 (SIH) for the Hardware Edition. The hackathon was inaugurated recently and the first round of evaluation had kick-started in March.
Thousands of teams comprising of over one lakh students participated in this pool and about 250 teams have been announced as the finalists. The hackathon is being conducted at eighteen different nodal centres for five days this week.
The grand finale of the event is being held in a few centres among which the eighteen different nodal centres which are Bhartiya Skill Development University in Jaipur, Dayananda Sagar University in Bangalore, and Central Scientific Instruments Organisation in Chandigarh. The participants are provided access to the nodal centres during the five days of the grand finale.
Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister of Human Resource Development, spoke during the inauguration and addressed the participants and mentioned that Smart India Hackathon, provided the largest platform to experiment and execute path-breaking tech solutions. He also mentioned that the “New India” vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi would also be achieved, considering the involvement of the youth in the hackathon.
The Smart India Hackathon is a government initiative and is being organized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, All-India Council for Technical Education, and Persistent Systems.
The Smart India Hackathon 2019 is the kind of innovative model that helps identify technological innovations. The Smart India Hackathon model works like a competition that works like non- stop product development and the tech-savvy students provide solutions to the problem statements. The hackathon works like a funnel for the Startup India Campaign which is filled with creative and technically strong students.
The winner of the Smart India Hackathon is a team of Pune students from the Pune Institute of Computer Technology. The team built a pair of synchronous drones and an algorithm which enabled the co-ordination between eight to nine drones to fly together. The winning team received a lakh rupees worth of cash reward.
The Smart India Hackathon- Hardware Edition was conducted by the support of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. 40+ industries were involved, 2235 institutes participated, and over a lakh students involved. There were a total of 198 problem statements generated and twenty thousand plus ideas generated. The hackathon consisted of 1500+ youngsters and 250 teams reached the final round. The hackathon participation ratio of male and female students was 1.6:1. The Hackathon built an excellent pipeline of projects for the Start-up India Movement and unveiled the largest number of technical talent in the country.
