Top MBA Institutes in the country such as Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode have started to accept students with a result of 90 percentile, this was declared by the institute on their website where they published the cut-off marks for the Common Entrance Test or CAT 2019 result. Candidates who were able to make the cut off marks are eligible for admission at the top IIMs of the country. The students who could not make the cut off are also eligible for admission at non-IIM member institutions. These non-IIM colleges allow students for admission even for the ones who have scored below 90 percentiles.
Even though the CAT results are supposed the be the final deciding factor for admission several business schools look for other factors, such as previous academic performance, academic diversity, work experience and gender, these inputs come together at various stages of the admission process to determine the eligibility of the candidate in the b-school. Several private and non-private business schools have also started taking students with less than 70 percentiles, such as Amity University, Asia-Pacific Institute of Management, Birla Institute of Management Technology, Infinity Business School and Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship. Other top colleges such as IMI Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, IIM Tiruchirappalli and IIM Shillong only take students who have scored above the 70 percentiles range.
This year surprisingly some students have done well, according to officials, there were a total of 10 candidates who have scored a 100 percentile in the CAT 2019 results. These ten candidates, as shown in CAT 2019 results, are from technological and engineering backgrounds, two of these candidates are from the National Institute of Technology and another six are from the Indian Institute of Technology. A total of 21 candidates who have scored 99.99 percentile and 19 of these students are also from a technological background. CAT 2019 results showed that there were over 100 participating institutes and the officials saw the highest number of candidates who appeared for the exam in the last ten years. The demographics were around 1.34 lakh men, 75,000 women and five transgender people were candidates for the exam.
