In the quiet town of Churachandpur in Manipur, amidst the lush landscapes and serene surroundings, a remarkable tale of perseverance and triumph unfolds.

Dominic Sominthang Haokip and his sister Hatchinghoi Haokip, hailing from the Kuki community, have etched their names in the annals of success by securing commendable ranks in the prestigious Civil Services Exam (CSE) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Dominic, the youngest among six siblings, secured an impressive 994 rank in his very first attempt at the CSE. His elder sister, Hatchinghoi, a B.Tech graduate from IIT Madras, achieved the 898th rank, marking her third successful attempt in the Civil Services Exam.

Their journey to success was not devoid of challenges. Dominic, who had returned home with a singular focus on preparing for the UPSC exams, found himself amidst turmoil as violence erupted in Manipur. Undeterred, he swiftly changed his exam center to Delhi and persevered despite the uncertainties and tensions back home.

Reflecting on their achievements, Dominic credits the unwavering support of his parents and siblings. His father's encouragement to prioritize studies and his mother's late-night study sessions were instrumental in their success. Financial support from elder siblings also played a crucial role in their preparation journey.

The moment of realization came when Dominic spotted their surname 'Haokip' in the result list, a moment of shared joy and pride for the entire family. Their father expressed gratitude and emotion, seeing his children achieve their dreams.

Looking ahead, Dominic's aspirations reflect his commitment to serving his community and state. He aims to focus on ensuring essential commodities and healthcare access for displaced persons, especially those affected by recent adversities. Education remains a priority, with plans to address learning loss among young students impacted by the pandemic.

Dominic's journey underscores the values of perseverance, family support, and determination in the face of challenges. Their success shines as a beacon of hope and inspiration, not just for Manipur but for aspiring civil servants across the nation.
