The Jammu and Kashmir administration has revised school timings across the Kashmir Valley in view of falling temperatures, shorter daylight hours and changing weather conditions. The revised schedule is intended to accommodate the onset of winter, following snowfall in the higher reaches and rainfall in the plains over the past two days.
According to an order issued by the Directorate of School Education, Kashmir, schools within the limits of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation will operate from 10 am to 3:30 pm. Schools located outside the municipal corporation limits, as well as those in other districts of the Kashmir Valley, will function from 10:30 am to 4 pm.
The change comes as winter begins to set in across the region, with colder mornings making early school commutes more challenging for students and staff. The recent spell of rain in the plains and snowfall in the higher-altitude areas has further highlighted the changing weather conditions.
Revised School Timings in Kashmir
As per the revised schedule, school timings will vary depending on the institution’s location.
- Within Srinagar Municipal Corporation limits: 10 am to 3:30 pm.
- Outside Srinagar Municipal Corporation limits and in other districts of the Kashmir Valley: 10:30 am to 4 pm.
Students, parents and school staff should check with their respective institutions for the implementation of the revised timings and any additional instructions issued by the education authorities.
Winter Weather Brings Changes to School Routine
The Kashmir Valley experiences significant seasonal changes during winter, including lower temperatures, reduced daylight and snowfall in several areas. These conditions can affect daily travel, particularly for schoolchildren who commute during the early morning hours.
The revised schedule adjusts the start and closing times for schools across different parts of the Valley. Parents are advised to stay updated through official school communications, especially if weather conditions change or further instructions are issued.
Role of JKBOSE in School Education
The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) oversees school-level academic activities and board examinations for Classes 9 to 12 across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, as applicable under its jurisdiction. The board also issues examination-related notifications and date sheets.
However, the revised school timings have been announced by the Directorate of School Education, Kashmir. Students and parents should refer to official departmental orders for updates concerning school operations.
The revised schedule marks a seasonal adjustment to the school routine as the Valley prepares for colder weather. Families should continue to follow official advisories and confirm timings with their schools to avoid confusion.
