Turkey School Shooting: 14-Year-Old Student Kills Nine, Injures 13 in Second Attack in Two Days

The eighth-grade student reportedly brought multiple firearms, believed to belong to his father, to a school in Kahramanmaras before opening fire.

A 14-year-old student opened fire inside a school in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras province on Wednesday, killing nine people, including eight students and a teacher, and injuring 13 others. The shooting was the second school attack in Turkey in two days, raising fresh concerns over school safety.

Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci confirmed the casualties, according to Reuters. The attacker also died during the incident. However, reports differed on his age: Reuters cited officials identifying him as 14, while AFP reported that the attacker was a 13-year-old eighth-grade student.

Kahramanmaras Governor Mukerrem Unluer said the student arrived at the school carrying multiple firearms, believed to belong to his father, and opened fire.

“We regret to report nine deaths and 13 wounded. Six of them are currently in intensive care, three of whom are in critical condition,” Ciftci said in a statement.

The injured were taken to hospitals for treatment, with authorities monitoring the condition of those in intensive care.

The attack came a day after a separate school shooting in Turkey, marking two such incidents within 48 hours. The latest violence has renewed questions about how firearms were accessed and what measures are needed to protect students and teachers.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how the teenager obtained the weapons and what led to the attack.
