A viral photo of a crowded seminar room at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital following the recovery of a 31-year-old doctor's body has raised concerns over potential tampering with the crime scene.
The image, which circulated widely on social media, showed many individuals present in the seminar hall, prompting questions about how so many people were allowed to enter what should have been a secure area. Allegations soon surfaced that the crime scene had been altered, adding to the controversy.
These concerns align with earlier claims made by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) during a Supreme Court hearing, where the agency alleged that evidence in the case had been hampered and the crime scene manipulated. However, in response to the accusations linked to the viral image, Kolkata Police firmly denied any wrongdoing.
Indira Mukherjee, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central, stated during a press briefing that the crime scene was not compromised and that all individuals in the photo were fully authorized to be there. Mukherjee explained that those present were part of the investigation team, including officials from the detective department, forensic experts, and senior police officers.
She emphasized that the area was cordoned off, and only personnel involved in the investigation had access. Mukherjee also clarified details of another image taken after the inquest process, reinforcing that everyone involved was known and authorized. The police maintained that the investigation was conducted correctly and that no unauthorized persons had entered the scene.
