The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) has embarked on a pivotal collaboration with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC) to bolster cultural and educational exchanges between India and Taiwan.

The partnership formalized through a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), is set to enhance bilateral relations by integrating Mandarin language learning and cultural appreciation into IIT-G’s curriculum.

Under the agreement, TECC will support IIT-G by providing Mandarin language teachers specializing in curriculum development and foreign language assessment. These educators will deliver Mandarin courses over several semesters to expand students' linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding. This initiative targets students interested in pursuing careers or internships in Taiwan’s thriving semiconductor and agritech sectors.

In return, IIT-G will establish the Taiwan Education Centre on its campus, equipped to offer Mandarin classes, host seminars, and facilitate various exchange programs. The MoU, effective for three years, includes provisions for potential amendments and extensions.

An IIT-G spokesperson highlighted the collaboration’s goals: "This collaboration aims to introduce Indian students to Mandarin language learning by offering access to high-quality instruction from qualified teachers," said IIT Guwahati spokesperson, as quoted by India Today. The move represents a significant step in fostering deeper ties between India and Taiwan while enhancing educational opportunities for students.
