Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has urged against cancelling the NEET UG 2024 exam despite allegations of cheating and irregularities. While acknowledging the gravity of these incidents, Pradhan emphasized that isolated cases of misconduct should not result in penalising the vast majority of students who successfully cleared the exam.
The Minister's statement comes in response to escalating protests and increasing demands for a re-exam from various student groups, parents, and opposition parties. Protesters argue that the integrity of the exam has been compromised, calling for immediate action to ensure justice for all candidates.
Pradhan addressed the issue: "While cheating and irregularities are unacceptable and must be dealt with stringently, cancelling the entire exam would unfairly impact the lakhs of students who prepared diligently and cleared the exam through their hard work and merit. We must strike a balance between ensuring fairness and avoiding unnecessary hardship for genuine candidates."
The controversy surrounding NEET UG 2024 has garnered significant attention, with allegations of question paper leaks and other malpractices reported in several states, including Bihar. The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar has been actively investigating the issue, uncovering a network of individuals involved in the cheating scandal.
