23 Students Suffer Smoke Inhalation After School Lab Explosion In Thelur

A devastating explosion rocked the computer lab of a government high school in Thelur village, Ariyalur district, on Friday, August 23, leading to 23 students suffering from smoke inhalation.

The explosion, triggered by an electrical leakage in the locked computer room, occurred in the afternoon and filled the lab with thick, suffocating smoke. Unaware of the danger, several students entered the lab, resulting in severe symptoms such as vomiting and fainting.

The affected students were quickly rushed to Ariyalur Government Medical College Hospital for treatment, thanks to the swift response of teachers and local villagers. Hospital officials have confirmed that all 23 students are now in stable condition.

This incident unfolded at a high-tech computer lab in a school that serves 101 students from Classes VI to X. In response, high-ranking officials, including Transport Minister SS Sivasankar and District Collector P Rathinasamy, visited the hospital to support the injured students and their families. They also pledged a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and safety.

Following the incident, District Collector Rathinasamy inspected the damaged computer lab and held discussions with the school principal and teachers. He emphasized the importance of rigorous monitoring of school electrical systems to prevent future mishaps. He ordered the immediate renovation of the lab to ensure it could be safely used by students again.
