Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab has begun the restoration work after days of protests that turned into violence, vandalism, and arson. Learning activities have resumed online, and placements have also resumed as the university strives to restore campus life to normal.
Workers are clearing shattered glass, repairing damaged buildings and restoring affected spaces at the university’s Phagwara campus in order to return to normal. Several academic and administrative buildings were damaged during the chaos; shops were looted, and cars set on fire. Insurance surveyors have also been called in to value the damage. University authorities have said that the losses could run into crores.
What triggered the LPU protests?
The protests erupted after an unverified social media post about the alleged sexual assault of a female student. The unrest later turned violent, with mobs clashing and setting several objects and vehicles on fire, including the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway, which was blocked.
Police and university authorities have said that the alleged victim of the sexual assault has yet to be identified. Investigations into the allegations and the violence are ongoing. The incident brought classes to a standstill, leaving students and teachers to wonder when the university would resume its normal operations.
LPU online classes resumes from October 5
As part of its efforts to restore normal operations, Lovely Professional University will resume classes online. According to the information, classes would start online from October 5, 2026, and mid-term examinations would start on October 12, 2026. The move is expected to help students continue their studies while restoration work continues.
LPU placements continue despite the campus turmoil
In addition to resuming classes online, LPU is also working to resume its famed recruitment activities. Hushh.ai and Capgemini are among the companies involved in the recruitment process, according to to Tatva.
Capgemini has a long-standing recruitment relationship with LPU. Earlier this year, the university revealed that 578 students had received job offers from the renowned IT company. This is expected to enable the students to take up their positions at the firms while the restoration work continues.
What lies ahead for the LPU students?
The next few days will be critical for the students as the university restores its campus to its former glory. While online classes and examinations have been scheduled to resume, placements will also provide an opportunity for students to secure jobs.
However, the allegations and violence that led to the cancellation of classes remain under investigation. It will take time to restore complete order in the university as it returns to normal operations. For now, LPU is working to rebuild and replace the damaged campus while resuming academic and placement activities.
