Bennett University Student Kovid Gangrade Wins Silver Medal at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

Kovid Ajay Gangrade has won a Silver Medal in Digital Interactive Media Design at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, bringing international recognition to India’s emerging design talent. The NIFT Mumbai student received specialised training at Bennett University’s School of Design before representing India at the global competition.

Kovid’s achievement places him among India’s six silver medallists at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, held in Shanghai from September 23 to 26, 2026. The event brought together more than 1,400 competitors from around 68 countries and regions, competing across 64 skill categories.

Often described as the Olympics of Skills, WorldSkills is a global platform where young professionals demonstrate their technical abilities, creativity and industry expertise.

From NIFT Mumbai to the Global Design Stage

Kovid progressed through state, regional and national-level competitions before earning the opportunity to represent India internationally. His journey involved intensive preparation, technical training and continuous evaluation.

A significant part of his preparation took place at Bennett University’s School of Design under the guidance of Dr. Manisha Mohan, Dean and Chief Expert for Digital Interactive Media Design.

The training programme combined practical skill development, expert feedback and regular assessments to prepare him for international competition standards. Bennett University’s faculty team and industry experts also contributed to his preparation.

Why Kovid Gangrade’s Achievement Matters

Digital Interactive Media Design brings together technology, creativity and user experience to develop engaging digital solutions. From interactive websites and applications to digital experiences, the field reflects the growing connection between design and technology.

Kovid’s silver medal highlights the opportunities available to Indian students pursuing creative and technology-driven careers. His achievement also contributed to India’s overall performance at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, where the country secured 10th position with six silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence.

For aspiring designers, Kovid’s journey offers an important lesson: global opportunities in design require a combination of creative thinking, technical expertise, consistent practice and specialised mentorship. His achievement is a proud moment for India, NIFT Mumbai and Bennett University’s School of Design.
