Indian students aspiring to pursue an MBBS abroad have got another chance to apply for the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) Eligibility Certificate (EC). The reopened eligibility certificate application window for students who were unable to submit their applications by the first deadline due to technical issues is now live.
The Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) received requests from eligible candidates who had issues submitting their applications earlier. Eligible candidates can apply till 6 pm on October 7, 2026. Students who wish to apply for an MBBS abroad must do so before the last date.
Here are some key details regarding the reopened application window for the NMC’s Eligibility Certificate:
Reopened eligibility certificate application window will be available till October 7, 6 pm
The reopened eligibility certificate application window for students will be available till October 7 at 6 pm. Eligible candidates can apply through the NMC application portal and complete the process for obtaining the Eligibility Certificate.
Students have been advised against leaving their applications for the last minute and completing the process at the eleventh hour. This could cause issues such as website errors and other technical problems.
Earlier deadline for eligibility certificate application submission was September 30
The original deadline for submission of eligibility certificate applications was September 30, 2026.
EMRB got complaints regarding eligible candidates being unable to complete the application process due to technical issues.
As a result, EMRB decided to reopen the application window for a limited time for the candidates.
The reopened window is therefore more relevant to the candidates who had issues with the submission of their applications.
Before submitting the eligibility certificate application, double-check all the details
The candidate must double-check the details provided in the application form before submitting it.
This includes personal details, qualifications and other details related to the medical course.
They must also make sure that all the documents and other information related to their medical education have been provided correctly.
NMC has warned that the incomplete submission of the application will be rejected, with the onus on the candidate to provide sufficient details.
As such, students must not leave their applications for the last minute and double-check their submissions to ensure nothing is missing.
Why is the eligibility certificate important?
For Indian students, who wish to pursue medical education abroad, the eligibility certificate from NMC is an essential regulatory requirement.
The eligibility certificate pertains to whether the candidate fulfills the criteria for studying medicine outside of India.
It must be noted, however, that getting admitted to a foreign medical college does not grant the student the automatic eligibility to practice medicine in India upon returning to the country.
Students will have to satisfy the regulatory requirements of medical education, registration and practice in India as stipulated by NMC.
As such, students must be aware of the guidelines issued by NMC and the requirements regarding eligibility for foreign medical students.
Who should utilise the reopened application window?
It must be noted that the reopened eligibility certificate application window for October 7 is not for general applications. Students that utilise the reopened facility must have been unable to complete the application process due to technical issues.
As such, students must confirm their eligibility for utilisation of the reopened application window.
