How to Prepare for AIFSET as a Class 12 Biology Student

The biggest mistake before an entrance exam is often assuming that more studying automatically means better preparation. The better approach is to switch from simply revising Class 12 science to answering questions correctly within a set time.

AIFSET 2027 is an online national-level entrance test for admission to 200+ participating universities offering forensic science programmes. It consists of 100 multiple-choice questions carrying 100 marks, with a duration of 60 minutes and no negative marking. With this format, conceptual clarity, practice and time management all matter.

Strengthen your Biology fundamentals

The Class 12 Biology syllabus provides you with a helpful background. Don’t go over all the material again, just select the chapters and concepts that you are not sure about and revise these systematically.

Think in terms of understanding, not just remembering facts in isolation. After revising a topic, attempt objective questions related to it. Questions that you miss are very useful because they indicate where you need to work harder.

However, do not treat AIFSET like a Biology exam! or undergraduate forensic science course eligibility. Students are required to have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology and/or Mathematics as main subjects to take up this national level entrance test for pursuing forensic science programme at of 200+ top partner universities of AIFSET.

Practise the way the examination asks questions

Answering an MCQ quickly is a different skill from knowing a chapter. After completing your regular board-exam revision, add objective-question practice to your routine. Begin with the topic-wise questions and then progress to mixed questions. This will also help you feel comfortable with questions that test your ability to apply the concept, rather than just remember it.

A simple mistake notebook can help here. Highlight any common mistakes, challenging ideas, and questions that were particularly time-consuming to answer. It is better to revise these on a regular basis rather than to read the same chapters over and over that are already familiar.

Start taking timed tests

With 100 questions to be attempted in 60 minutes, AIFSET requires you to work at a steady pace. Start with small time chunks and then go for full length mock exams in exam conditions.

There is no negative marking so that an incorrect answer will not affect the marks for the question – but time is still valuable. Don’t take several minutes on a stumbling question when you could take a few minutes on a question you know.

Understand what you are preparing for

Some curiosity of forensic science should be an accompaniment to AIFSET preparation. Research topics like DNA analysis, forensic chemistry and toxicology to find out what the field is about and if it’s of interest.

There is no need to be an expert in forensic science prior to the entrance test. It is more important to have solid science basics, MCQ practice and to be able to take 100 questions in 60 minutes.

So, for a Class 12 Biology student, the best preparation is not to take a break from board studies and begin altogether different ones. It’s about preparing for entrance exams using the knowledge you already have.
