A government school teacher in Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh, has been issued a show-cause notice regarding school facilities, educational materials and the engagement of private teachers. The education department has initiated an inquiry into the matter to determine if the necessary procedures were followed.
Badri Lal Rathore, the previous in-charge headmaster of the government primary school in Roopnagar village, has been asked to explain how the facilities were provided, how the educational materials were purchased and on what grounds two private teachers were engaged.
The case has sparked debate on the guidelines and regulations for school improvement and community contributions to government schools.
During his time at the school, Rathore is said to have procured furniture, fans, a water cooler, a drinking-water tank, a television and many other items to support the learning environment of the students.
The department questioned the teacher regarding the educational materials provided to the students and the engagement of two private teachers.
According to the report published in the Voice of MP on October 10, 2026, Ratlam District Education Officer Simran Suryavanshi stated that the notice sought clarity on the facilities provided by the school, the educational materials purchased by it and the adherence to the prescribed procedures.
Rathore claimed that the members of the School Management Committee and social workers contributed to the expenses of engaging private teachers for the past five years.
While a preliminary inquiry found that the educational materials provided to the students were purchased from the local school funds and not from Rathore’s personal funds, it questioned the teacher on the procedure of purchases.
The case has brought attention to the procedures that need to be followed by teachers and local residents to contribute to government schools and the accountability of government officials when it comes to expenditures, purchases and extra staff. While the show-cause notice does not confirm any misconduct, the teacher’s response and the department’s inquiry will determine the next steps.
In addition, the case calls for a reconsideration of the guidelines and regulations regarding contributions to schools to ensure transparency and community involvement in the development of government schools.
