Priyanjana Ghosh’s journey from a Botany student and lecturer to the founder and principal of Biozone Academy is one of academic perseverance, women’s leadership and the decision to build rather than simply belong.
Before she became the founder and principal of an expanding academic institution, Mrs. Priyanjana Ghosh was a student of Botany, a lecturer and an academic mentor. Her journey through education was not simply a progression of degrees and designations. It was a gradual movement towards building an institution of her own.
In 2022, Ghosh took that step.
On February 15, she founded Biozone Academy, beginning with just one or two students. Four years later, the academy has grown into a community of more than 150 students, supported by 14 faculty members across online and offline teaching formats. More than 70 students have also passed through the institution as successful alumni, according to her address at the academy’s fourth annual meet.
The numbers tell one part of the story. The other is the journey of a woman who moved from being a learner to becoming an educator, mentor, administrator and institution-builder.
The scholarship that marked an early chapter
Ghosh’s academic foundation was built in Botany. She completed her graduation and post-graduation from the University of Calcutta. During her postgraduate studies at Bethune College, she received the Indira Post Graduate Single Girl Child Scholarship.
That scholarship became an important milestone in her academic journey, coming at a stage when she was building the educational foundation that would eventually shape her professional life.
She later pursued a B.Ed. from Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University, formerly known as The West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education Planning and Administration. She also completed a PGDEMA from IGNOU and became a certified career counsellor.
Her qualifications reflected an expanding interest–not only in science, but also in teaching, educational management and guiding students through academic and career choices.
From the classroom to leadership
Ghosh began her professional career as a lecturer at Vivekananda College for Women in Behala, Kolkata.
Her next significant professional chapter came at Biotecnika Info Labs Pvt. Ltd., a Bengaluru-based academic organisation, where she worked as a senior lecturer and course coordinator.
There, her responsibilities went beyond conventional classroom teaching. She mentored M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, guided students preparing for NET examinations and eventually served as the centre head of the organisation’s Kolkata branch.
Teaching gave her access to students. Mentoring gave her an understanding of their aspirations and challenges. Academic administration exposed her to the functioning of an educational institution.
Together, those experiences created the foundation for her next decision: building one herself.
A woman’s decision to create her own space
Biozone Academy was founded on February 15, 2022, with a simple objective–to create a space for quality education.
The beginning was modest. The founder’s address records the institution as starting with one or two students.
But the institution did not remain confined to its original focus.
Biology was initially at the centre of Biozone Academy’s academic offerings, reflecting Ghosh’s own background in Botany. Over time, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics were added. The academy also expanded into newer areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
Specialised certification courses followed in Bioinformatics, Microbiology and Biotechnology. Programmes in Conservation and Forest Management were also introduced, along with French as a second language.
The expansion reflects an educational philosophy that seeks to expose students to multiple disciplines rather than restrict learning to a single academic track.
Science, scholarship and sustainability
Ghosh’s engagement with science has also extended beyond teaching. She has co-authored the book chapter “Green Nanotechnology: The Novel and Emerging Strategy for Sustainable Development,” reflecting her academic engagement with emerging scientific approaches and sustainability.
It is another dimension of a career that has repeatedly crossed boundaries–between science and education, teaching and administration, mentoring and institution-building.
From one student to a community
At Biozone Academy’s fourth annual meet at Okakura Bhavan on April 13, 2026, Ghosh reflected on what the institution had become four years after its founding.
Her address placed the people around the institution at the centre of its story.
She thanked parents for their trust, described students as the “heart” of Biozone Academy and credited teachers for helping shape its academic culture.
For a woman who began her career in the classroom, the occasion represented a significant shift in scale–from teaching individual students to helping create an institution in which hundreds of learners could find academic opportunities.
Her journey is not simply about founding an academy. It is about the gradual accumulation of knowledge, professional experience and confidence that enabled her to move from working within educational institutions to creating one.
From scholarship recipient to lecturer. From lecturer to mentor. From academic administrator to founder and principal.
Priyanjana Ghosh’s story demonstrates one route through which women in education can move from participating in institutions to building spaces of their own.
“In this whole journey, my in-laws and husband were the greatest support. I could not have achieved it without them.”
And Biozone Academy, which began with a handful of students in 2022, is the institution that emerged from that journey.
