Medical aspirants in Maharashtra have more seats to choose from in the second round of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) after the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell added 550 MBBS and BDS seats at three private medical institutions for the 2026-27 academic session.
The seats became available following the recognition of Lata Mangeshkar University, Nagpur, and Dr Balasaheb Vikhe Patil University, Ahilyanagar, as private universities. The State CET Cell issued the notification from Mumbai on September 10.
Of the newly added seats, 450 are for MBBS and 100 for BDS.
Which colleges have the new seats?
The additional seats are distributed across three institutions:
- N.K.P. Salve Medical College, Nagpur: 250 MBBS seats
- Ranjit Deshmukh Dental College: 100 BDS seats
- Dr Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Foundation’s Medical College: 200 MBBS seats
N.K.P. Salve Medical College and Ranjit Deshmukh Dental College are affiliated with Lata Mangeshkar University, while Dr Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Foundation’s Medical College comes under Dr Balasaheb Vikhe Patil University.
How will the seats be allocated?
According to the CET Cell notification, 40% of the total intake at these institutions will be available to Maharashtra candidates. Constitutional reservation provisions will apply to this share.
The remaining 60% will be filled at the All-India level, with reservation provisions not applicable to these seats. Of the All-India quota, 15% will be reserved for NRI candidates.
Candidates have been advised to refer to Notice No. 15 issued by the State CET Cell for detailed information on the newly available seats and admission process.
CAP Round 2 preference deadline extended
The CET Cell has also extended the deadline for candidates to submit or modify their preferences for CAP Round 2.
Candidates can submit or change their choices until 10 am on September 12, 2026. Aspirants interested in the newly added private university seats should review the notification and check the applicable eligibility and admission conditions before locking their preferences.
Scholarships will not apply
The notification also states that scholarship schemes will not be applicable to candidates admitted to these private universities through the process.
With 550 additional seats now available, NEET UG 2026 candidates have a larger pool of MBBS and BDS options in Maharashtra during CAP Round 2. However, students should carefully check the fee structure, quota category, eligibility requirements and scholarship conditions before making their final choices.
