More than a dozen students from DAV Gandhinagar in Ranchi endured brutal physical abuse by their sports teacher, Ayush Kumar Sinha, following their poor performance in a sports tournament.

The Regional Inter School Tournament was held on July 22 and 23 at Sector IV DAV in Bokaro. After the event, Sinha allegedly took the children into a room, covered the CCTV camera with a handkerchief, and assaulted them with a rod and belt, also damaging their mobile phones.

Upon returning to Ranchi, the students disclosed the horrific incident to their parents. Despite their attempts to address the issue with the school principal, no action was taken against Sinha. As a result, the parents lodged a formal complaint with Gonda Police Station on July 24. The complaint alleges that Sinha threatened the students with transfer certificates if they reported the abuse and was also seen smoking cigarettes filled with suspicious substances during the incident.

Manish Kumar, the father of an 11-year-old victim, voiced his frustration over the school's lack of response and reported that some children suffered severe injuries. The Gonda Police Station Officer in charge, Abhay Kumar Sinha, confirmed that a Zero FIR had been filed and the case would have been forwarded to the relevant police station in Bokaro.

The community is now calling for prompt action to ensure the safety of the students and accountability for Sinha.
