The deadline for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TS TET) has been extended due to pressures from existing teachers and a significant decrease in the number of applicants. Despite the current tally of 1,93,135 applications, the expected number of 3 lakhs remains unfulfilled. Over recent years, there has been a noticeable decline in applications, with figures dropping from 3.40 lakhs in 2016 to 2.83 lakhs in 2023.

TS TET 2024's original deadline of April 10th has been pushed back to April 20th. However, the exam dates remain unchanged, scheduled from May 20th to June 3rd. Alongside the low TET applications, the recruitment drive for Teacher Posts (DSC) has seen a similar decline. Despite 11,062 vacancies, only 37,700 new applications have been received, a stark contrast to the 1.77 lakh applications received last year. A request for an extension of the TET application deadline has been made to allow those who qualify to apply for DSC, which is open from July 17th to 31st.

Various teacher associations have voiced their concerns regarding the application process. Raoula Manohar Reddy, representing the BED Candidates Association, has requested an extension and an edit option due to service center closures during holidays and difficulties faced with the mobile application. Chava Ravi, the State General Secretary of TSUTF, has called for an extension until clarity is received from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) regarding the TET requirements for serving teachers.

The schedule for the DSC 2024 exams has also been finalized. These exams will be conducted online from July 17th to July 31st. The available positions include School Assistant Posts (2,629), Language Scholar Posts (727), Physical Education Teacher (PET) Posts (182), Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) Posts (6,508), Special Education School Assistant Posts (220), and Special Education SGT Posts (796).
