Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, organized a one-day mental health awareness and training program for its teaching and non-teaching staff. The session was held in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, as per Special Leave Petition No. 6378/2021, mandating regular training sessions for educational personnel to identify and respond effectively to students’ mental health concerns.

Promoting Empathy and Sensitivity in Campus Settings

As per the Supreme Court guidelines, academic institutions across the country are required to train their employees to recognize psychological distress among students and provide timely support. In keeping with this vision, JUIT’s mental health awareness initiative aimed to strengthen empathy, early identification, and intervention skills among employees to promote a psychologically safe campus environment.

Clinical Psychologist Ms. Shraddha Puri from MMU, Kumarhatti (Solan), served as the chief resource person for the training. She provided in-depth insights into various aspects of mental well-being, emotional intelligence, and stress management among students. Ms. Puri also discussed the crucial role of educators in fostering emotional resilience within academic communities.

Strong Administrative Support for Mental Health Initiatives

The event was marked by the active participation of JUIT’s top leadership, reflecting the institution’s commitment to comprehensive well-being. Participants included Prof. Rajendra Kumar Sharma (Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Ashok Gupta (Dean, Academics), Brig. R. K. Sharma (Retd.) (Registrar and Dean, Students’ Welfare), and Prof. Shruti Jain (Associate Dean, Innovation), along with all heads of departments, faculty, and administrative staff members.

The program was coordinated and conducted by Prof. Amit Srivastava (Director and Coordinator, Student Service Centre) and Dr. Ranjith Kalyani (Nodal Officer). Their efforts ensured a structured and engaging session focused on real-world mental health challenges and approaches to holistic well-being in academic settings.

Fostering a Supportive Learning Ecosystem

The initiative’s core objective was to build awareness around the significance of mental health within the university ecosystem and create a sustainable support system for students. It underscored the importance of collaboration among faculty, administrators, and counsellors to address student mental health with sensitivity and professionalism.

With evolving academic pressures and personal challenges among young learners, such initiatives highlight JUIT’s proactive approach toward making education environments emotionally supportive and inclusive.

The university administration expressed its continued dedication to nurturing mental well-being, resilience, and empathy, ensuring that students and staff alike can thrive in a healthy, supportive academic atmosphere.
