The Madhya Pradesh government has taken decisive action by terminating Sunita Shiju, the former registrar of the MP Nursing Registration Council, due to serious misconduct.

Shiju's dismissal follows an inquiry into her tenure from September 2021 to August 2022, during which she was found complicit in granting recognition to ineligible nursing colleges.

The investigation was initiated in response to a petition filed by the Law Students Association, highlighting various irregularities under Shiju's oversight. These included the approval of colleges with duplicate faculties and other discrepancies, compromising the integrity of the recognition process. The inquiry's findings confirmed these allegations, leading to Shiju being found guilty of misconduct.

The Dean of Medical College Bhopal, under which Shiju served, issued a charge sheet against her on May 29, 2023, followed by an additional charge sheet on August 4, 2023, underscoring the gravity of the allegations against her.

Despite these measures, concerns have been raised regarding the adequacy of the charges against Shiju. Vishal Baghel, representing the petitioners, expressed dissatisfaction, citing potential loopholes that could allow Shiju to challenge her termination through legal means.

Presently, Sunita Shiju is the staff nurse at Datia Medical College. Her termination signifies the state government's commitment to upholding transparency and accountability within educational institutions, particularly in matters concerning the accreditation of nursing colleges. This action serves as a stark reminder to public officials regarding the consequences of misconduct and reinforces the imperative for stringent oversight and ethical governance in educational administration.
