To support students from remote areas, the Odisha government has approved the disbursement of over Rs 21 crore as transport and escort allowance for the academic session 2024-25. This initiative will benefit 35,076 school children, ensuring they have the means to attend school regularly.

The allowance, which ranges from Rs 300 to Rs 600 per month, targets students from government and government-aided primary, upper primary, and secondary schools who live more than 1 km away from their schools. The funds will be directly credited to the bank accounts of the students or their parents, streamlining the distribution process and ensuring transparency.

A key component of this initiative is its link to school attendance. Students with 75% or higher attendance will receive the highest amount, while those with lower attendance will receive a reduced amount. This strategy aims to motivate students to maintain consistent attendance, thus enhancing their educational experience and outcomes.

The highest allocation will go to Ganjam district, where 4,577 students will receive Rs 2.74 crore. Other districts, including Balasore, Khurda, Puri, and Jajpur, will also significantly benefit from the scheme. The targeted allocation ensures that funds reach areas with the highest need, supporting the most vulnerable student populations.

This initiative, which is expected to significantly boost attendance and support the education of students from rural areas, is a testament to the Odisha government's commitment to promoting inclusivity and accessibility in its education system. By providing financial assistance for transportation, the government is ensuring that all students, regardless of their geographical location, have the opportunity to attend school and receive a quality education.

The Odisha government’s decision to allocate Rs 21 crore for the conveyance allowance of school children from remote areas is a proactive measure to enhance educational access and inclusivity. By linking the allowance to attendance, the initiative not only provides financial support but also encourages regular school attendance, laying a stronger foundation for the academic success of students across the state.
