The Karnataka government has taken a significant stride in supporting students from marginalised backgrounds by announcing a substantial increase in the monthly stipend for SC/ST students preparing for the Civil Services examination in New Delhi. The stipend has been immediately elevated from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000.

This decision, sanctioned by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on July 5, 2024, aims to benefit approximately 70 Karnataka students currently dedicated to preparing for this prestigious exam. Alongside the stipend hike, the government has committed to establishing a dedicated hostel and providing a well-equipped library facility tailored to the needs of these students. These measures are designed to foster a conducive environment that bolsters their academic endeavours and enhances their prospects of success.

The initiative is part of Karnataka's broader strategy to empower SC/ST students and bridge educational and opportunity gaps. By alleviating financial burdens through the increased stipend, the government seeks to enable these students to focus wholeheartedly on their studies and fulfil their aspirations of joining the civil services.

This proactive stance underscores the government's unwavering commitment to fostering inclusivity and ensuring equitable support for marginalized communities. It underscores a commitment to providing every aspiring student with a fair chance to excel and contribute meaningfully to society. By prioritising the needs of SC/ST students preparing for competitive examinations, Karnataka demonstrates a commitment to levelling the playing field and empowering disadvantaged groups. This initiative addresses immediate financial challenges and aims to create a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically and realise their full potential.
