The Assam government has launched the Pragyan Bharti Scheme to empower underprivileged students with access to higher education. Under this initiative, 95,000 students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds will receive free admission to colleges and universities across the state.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially distributed Rs 68.44 crore to 349 educational institutions, facilitating this ambitious program. The scheme targets students from Class 11 through post-graduation, aiming to significantly boost higher education's Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER).

As reported by Times of India, to qualify for the scheme, students must meet an increased income eligibility criterion, raised from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per annum. Proof of family income through ration cards will be accepted, ensuring equitable distribution of benefits among eligible candidates. Notably, children of government employees are excluded from this scheme.

This progressive initiative marks a pivotal step towards democratizing education in Assam, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder deserving students from pursuing their academic aspirations. By eliminating financial barriers, the government aims to nurture a more inclusive and educated society, fostering economic growth and social equity across the state.

The Pragyan Bharti Scheme is poised to revolutionize the educational landscape, offering thousands of underprivileged students a transformative opportunity to secure a brighter future through quality higher education. As the scheme rolls out, it is anticipated to contribute significantly to Assam's overall development and prosperity, empowering its youth and preparing them for leadership roles in various fields.

Interested students and stakeholders are encouraged to visit the official government channels and educational institutions involved in implementing the Pragyan Bharti Scheme for further details on eligibility criteria and application procedures. This initiative represents a commendable effort towards achieving educational equity and excellence in Assam.
