Significant changes are underway in the Calcutta High Court's handling of matters concerning recruiting primary school teachers in West Bengal. Previously overseen by Justice Rajasekhar Mantha, these cases will now be presided over by Justice Amrita Sinha following Justice Mantha's elevation to head a division bench.
Justice Sinha, who will manage a single-judge bench, takes over the crucial cases related to allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process for state-run school teachers. This shift was reported by IANS and confirmed by court insiders.
In parallel, certain police-related matters previously under Justice Sinha's jurisdiction will be reassigned to the bench of Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj. This reallocation is part of the new Master of Rosters implemented at the Calcutta High Court.
Notably, cases initially assigned to Justice Sinha's bench before 2022 will continue under her purview. However, those allocated after 2022 will now be transferred to Justice Bharadwaj's bench.
The recruitment scandal, which has drawn considerable attention, revolves around the alleged illegal appointments of candidates who did not pass the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET). The investigation focuses on primary school teachers in government-sponsored and aided schools across West Bengal.
