The Open Space Foundation (OSF) has launched a two-day workshop on telescope construction for government school students at the Panchayat Union Primary School in Malumichampatti, near Coimbatore.
Starting on Thursday, July 17, the workshop sees participation from students and teachers across six government schools in the Madukkarai and Thondamuthur blocks.
Guided by OSF, the students actively design their telescopes, aptly named Namma Telescope, and learn about space science. The workshop includes practical activities such as using telescopes to observe the moon and planets. The following day, students and teachers from an additional six schools will join the workshop, as reported by Edex Live.
The event is supported by the Walkaroo Foundation and Trident Pneumatics Private Limited as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
In a separate issue, students at Bharathiar University have raised concerns about the campus canteen being closed for over six months. They report that the closure, due to the expiration of the canteen's contract, has forced students and staff to travel two kilometres daily for meals. Despite the contract’s expiry, the university has yet to issue a new tender for canteen services.
