In a dramatic turn of events following the tragic death of three UPSC aspirants at Rau’s IAS Study Circle, a Delhi coaching institute, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials held a late-night meeting with students and protesters on Sunday. The aspirants lost their lives when the basement library of the coaching centre, which was illegally set up, flooded during a heavy rainstorm on Saturday night.
The incident sparked immediate and intense protests, including road blockades and a candle march, as students and community members demanded justice. In response to the mounting pressure, MCD officials have promised immediate relief by announcing a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased. Additionally, they have taken significant regulatory actions, including sealing at least 13 coaching centres in Old Rajinder Nagar for operating illegally in basement areas.
The basement library at Rau’s IAS Study Circle, where the flood occurred, was unauthorised and highlighted broader concerns about safety and compliance in educational institutions. These arrests are part of a broader effort to hold accountable those responsible for the unsafe and illegal conditions that led to the disaster.
