A disturbing incident of violence unfolded at a government-aided higher secondary school in Srirangam on Monday afternoon, July 29, when a Class XII student attacked a classmate with a knife. The situation escalated further when a teacher intervened to break up the fight, only to be injured.

According to reports, a seemingly trivial dispute between the two students, originating from a social media exchange, escalated into a full-blown confrontation. The attacker, a Biology student, is alleged to have left the school premises, procured a knife, and returned to confront his classmate. The ensuing chaos led to injuries to both students and a 56-year-old teacher, S Sivakumar, who sustained a cut on his forehead while attempting to quell the violence.

Emergency services were immediately alerted, and injured students and the teacher were rushed to Srirangam Government Hospital for initial treatment. Given the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently transferred to the larger Tiruchi Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital for specialized care.

Local police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are actively searching for the assailant. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the safety of students within educational institutions.
