The Tamil Nadu government has announced that it will fund the education of students from state-run schools who join top institutions in India and abroad.
According to News18, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between students from government schools and private schools and to provide opportunities for students from government schools to pursue higher education in top institutions. The government will bear the initial travel expenses of students going abroad and fund the education of pupils who pursue higher education in top centers of learning, including IITs, NITs, National Law Universities, and institutions that teach space science.
As per reports, the number of students qualifying for higher education in top institutions has increased significantly, from 75 students in 2022 to 274 students in 2023. This increase is attributed to the government's efforts to improve the quality of education in state-run schools and provide opportunities for students to pursue higher education.
In addition to funding education, the government has also announced that 14 students from Tamil Nadu government schools have bagged full scholarships to join reputed universities in Japan, Malaysia, and Taiwan. This is a significant achievement and a testament to the government's efforts to promote education and provide opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The government's Pudhumai Penn scheme has also led to a 34% increase in enrollment in colleges, and the breakfast scheme launched by the government will benefit around 17 lakh students in 31,008 state-run primary schools.
