Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced that it will allow Bangladeshi students who have recently completed their studies to remain in campus hostels at no charge due to the ongoing crisis in their home country.

The decision comes in the wake of political turmoil following the resignation and flight of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5. This move is intended to safeguard the students' well-being and provide them with necessary support during this period of instability.

According to a press release from the university, the students preparing to vacate the hostels as per usual procedure will now be permitted to stay until the situation in Bangladesh normalizes. Prof SVS Raju, Coordinator of the International Centre at BHU, highlighted that the university's decision is rooted in students' challenges while returning home. He assured that the university will extend all possible assistance to these students and address any additional difficulties they might encounter during their extended stay on campus.

This gesture underscores BHU's commitment to supporting its international community amidst global uncertainties. Each year, BHU hosts numerous international students, with a significant number hailing from Bangladesh. The university's decision reflects its dedication to the safety and welfare of its students, ensuring they remain secure and supported until it is safe for them to return home.
