Delhi Education Minister Atishi has announced that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government allocates a remarkable 25% of its total budget to education, setting it apart from other states. This investment is part of the Delhi government’s extensive efforts to address previous deficiencies in government schools.
Atishi highlighted that schools faced critical shortages before the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took office, including inadequate classrooms, outdated boards, unreliable power supply, and insufficient washrooms.
Since 2015, the Delhi government has significantly upgraded the educational infrastructure, constructing 22,711 new classrooms. Modern amenities such as smart boards, libraries, and sports facilities have also been introduced to provide a conducive learning environment for students. Additionally, 14 new schools are currently under construction to further improve educational facilities across the city.
Atishi’s comments were made during a press conference where she also celebrated the inauguration of a new building at Sant Eknath Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya. Alongside Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, she expressed satisfaction with the progress made and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering quality education. The minister also acknowledged the challenges faced by students in densely populated areas like Dilshad Colony, Seemapuri, and Kalandar Colony, where overcrowded classrooms and limited facilities previously impeded their learning experience.
