Gujarat has seen a significant shift in student enrollment for the academic year 2024-25, with over 200,000 students transitioning from private to government schools, as reported by the state government on August 12. This move indicates an increased trust in the quality of education government schools provide.

The highest number of new admissions has been recorded in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation schools, which welcomed 37,786 students. Surat Municipal Corporation schools followed with 22,892 students, while Vadodara Municipal Corporation and Rajkot Municipal Corporation schools saw 10,602 and 6,204 students, respectively. This trend highlights a notable preference for government institutions over private ones.

Among districts, Banaskantha leads with the highest enrollment of 10,228 students. Other districts such as Mehsana, Bhavnagar, and Junagadh also experienced significant increases, contributing to the overall trend of students moving to government schools.

The state government has significantly boosted the education budget for 2024-25 to Rs 55,114 crore, an increase of Rs 11,463 crore from the previous year. Additionally, Gujarat now operates one lakh innovative classes, with over 5,000 more in progress. According to India TV reports, approximately 240,000 computers have been distributed across 16,000 schools, and plans are underway to provide 70,000 additional computers to over 4,000 schools.

These measures reflect the government's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and addressing the rising demand for government school placements.
