Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital is under scrutiny as images posted on X today, August 13, reveal the demolition of a section of the Chest Medicine department. This area is pivotal as it is where a post-graduate trainee doctor was found murdered on August 9.
The victim, a resident doctor in the Chest Medicine department, was allegedly raped and killed in the seminar hall. Following the tragic incident, the Calcutta High Court ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case, set to begin tomorrow, August 14.
Photos shared by user 'purpleready' (@epicnephrin_e) show extensive demolition and reconstruction work in the "Resident Doctor's Area." The timing of these actions has raised alarm, with concerns that they could be an attempt to destroy or alter evidence before the CBI's investigation starts.
The tweet accompanying the images questions whether the ongoing reconstruction is an effort to obscure the crime scene: "Update on #RGKarMedicalCollegeHospital brutal rape and murder of female resident doctor: CBI will take over the case at 10 am and here’s the condition of Chest Medicine department of RGKar Medical college (where the victim was a trainee and found dead in the seminar room). It’s being ‘reconstructed’ or this is a desperate attempt to wipe out evidence (if not done already)?" as quoted by Edex Live.
The demolition has triggered significant criticism and suspicion as investigators prepare to investigate the case.
