A disturbing case of assault and harassment has emerged from the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, where a first-year dental student was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted by a resident doctor. The accused, Maninder Kaushik, an MD anatomy resident, was arrested by the police on August 16.

The victim's ordeal reportedly began seven months ago when Kaushik started harassing her, leveraging his position to intimidate and coerce her. According to the student's complaint, Kaushik threatened to manipulate her attendance records if she reported the harassment. The situation escalated when the student was allegedly kidnapped and taken to Ambala and Chandigarh, where the doctor assaulted her.

As per edexLive reports, in response to the complaint, the University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, acted swiftly, expelling Kaushik and imposing a ban on his entry to the campus. The decision reflects the institution's commitment to maintaining a safe and secure student environment.

The local police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and conducted a medical examination of the victim to gather evidence. The investigation is ongoing, with the student's statement recorded before a Judicial Magistrate, ensuring that her account is legally documented.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the medical community and raised serious concerns about the safety of students in academic institutions. The case underscores the pressing need for stringent measures to protect students from harassment and foster zero tolerance towards such misconduct.

Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served and the accused will be held accountable under the full force of the law. This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of addressing harassment in educational institutions and ensuring those responsible for such acts face serious consequences.
