Four Students Injured As 74-Year-Old School Building Collapses In Kadaba

The school, which serves 177 students from Classes I to VIII, had Class V and VII classrooms in the affected building. Although most of the students were on the playground during the repair work, the report noted that four students had gone inside to drink water just before the incident happened.

In a swift response to a severe safety lapse, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP has suspended the headmaster of a government school and a junior engineer after a 74-year-old school building partially collapsed, injuring four students in Kunturu, Perabe village of Kadaba taluk on Tuesday, August 27.

According to The New Indian Express, the injured students, who were taken to a hospital in Puttur, are now out of danger. The collapse occurred during foundation reinforcement work on the old building, which involved using an earthmover. Unfortunately, the roof and one of the walls gave way suddenly.

News of the collapse sent parents rushing to the school, where they confronted Kadaba tahsildar Prabhakar Kajure, Puttur Block Education Officer (BEO) Lokesh, and Zilla Parishad Engineer Sangappa Hukkeri. In light of the incident, the Deputy Commissioner ordered the immediate suspension of Headmaster Ramesh and ZP Engineer Sangappa Hukkeri, holding them accountable for the lapse.
