Delhi Education Minister Atishi has instructed the Directorate of Education to create a detailed blueprint for mental health and guidance support in government schools.
This initiative follows a successful pilot phase conducted in 20 schools, where over 20,000 students received counselling and support over the past year. The pilot involved Educational and Vocational Guidance Counsellors (EVGC), and school psychologists who provided individual and group sessions focused on stress management and emotional well-being.
Minister Atishi has emphasized expanding these counselling services to all Delhi government schools to effectively address students' mental health needs. During discussions with school psychologists and EVGC counsellors, it was highlighted that timely intervention can significantly impact students' mental health and academic performance.
The counsellors reported that many students face early stress, adversely affecting their mental well-being. Increased awareness and early treatment are crucial, as many students do not receive the help they need promptly.
The new blueprint will integrate mental health support into the educational framework, ensuring every student receives the necessary guidance and counselling. The initiative reflects the Delhi government's commitment to enhancing its students' mental and emotional well-being and addressing mental health issues proactively within the school environment.
