The West Bengal Junior Doctor's Front has called for a protest march today, September 10, from Karunamoyee to Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata, demanding the resignation of key health officials, including the Directorate of Medical Education (DME).

The march, scheduled between 12 noon and 1 pm, will be followed by a sit-in protest at Swasthya Bhawan. According to the messages circulated by the junior doctors, the rally, termed "Swasthya Bhawan Abhijan," aims to root out corruption within the health sector.

In a statement issued on September 9, the Junior Doctors’ Front expressed frustration over the lack of government response to their demands despite a month-long protest. They criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for urging people to focus on Durga Puja festivities, calling her remarks "obscene and inhumane" given the unresolved issues in the medical sector.

The group also highlighted the deteriorating situation in medical colleges, particularly referencing the events of August 9 at RG Kar Medical College, which they described as a result of ongoing political pressure and threats. They emphasized that they do not want the future of any medical institution to mirror the conditions at RG Kar, underscoring the urgency of their demands for reform within the state’s healthcare system.
