The Motilal Oswal Foundation has made a historic donation of Rs. 130 crore to IIT Bombay, marking one of the largest corporate contributions to an Indian educational institution. This significant funding aims to elevate the quality of financial education and research at the esteemed institute.
The generous contribution will establish the Motilal Oswal Knowledge Centre, a cutting-edge facility spanning approximately 1 to 1.2 lakh square feet. This centre will feature advanced laboratories, research centres, and collaborative spaces designed to draw top global talent and drive innovation in financial markets.
Central to the donation is the creation of the Motilal Oswal Centre for Capital Markets (MOCM). This multidisciplinary centre will integrate expertise from finance, economics, management, computer science, and artificial intelligence to address the evolving needs of the Indian financial sector. MOCM will offer a diverse range of academic programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as online diplomas accessible to professionals worldwide.
Professor Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, expressed his appreciation for the foundation’s support. “This generous donation will help us modernise and advance our infrastructure, essential for fostering ground-breaking research,” Kedare said, as quoted by India Today.
Motilal Oswal, Trustee of the foundation, highlighted the broader impact of this philanthropic gesture. "The Motilal Oswal Knowledge Centre and Centre for Capital Markets stand as a testament to the power of strategic philanthropy." he noted.
This donation forms part of the Motilal Oswal Foundation’s broader philanthropic strategy, which includes allocating 10% of MOFSL’s Rs. 4,000 crore equity to charitable causes. The foundation’s support is set to make a lasting impact on financial education and research, benefiting students and professionals both in India and globally.
