In an urgent push to reform Arunachal Pradesh’s struggling education sector, Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona has called on School Management Committees (SMCs) and panchayat bodies to collaborate with the state government.
As per reports of The Sentinel, the minister highlighted the importance of community involvement in addressing persistent challenges such as poor infrastructure, inadequate teacher training, and the need for more robust school governance.
Minister Sona emphasised the vital role that SMCs and panchayat bodies can play in improving the state's education outcomes. He pointed to the Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Act 1997, which empowers local governance institutions to manage schools actively. By tapping into this legislative framework, the state hopes to create a more robust school support system, leveraging local expertise and resources.
The state government plans to launch capacity-building programs to train panchayat members and SMC representatives, equipping them with the necessary skills to enhance education governance. Sona also stressed the need for resource mobilisation initiatives, which will aim to engage local communities, NGOs, and government agencies to provide additional support for the education system.
Education stakeholders across the region have praised Sona's appeal, viewing it as a pivotal step towards transforming the education landscape in Arunachal Pradesh. The government’s collaborative approach is expected to create a more inclusive and resilient education system, addressing key issues that have held back progress for years. By fostering partnerships with local governance bodies, the state hopes to improve learning outcomes and ensure students across Arunachal Pradesh have access to quality education.
