IIT Guwahati, in partnership with EduRade, a brand under RC HobbyTech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., and incubated at the IIT Guwahati Research Park, has inaugurated India's largest Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO), sprawling over 18 acres and equipped to handle nine medium-class drones concurrently. The primary objective of this RPTO, as stated in the press release, is to propel the advancement of drone technology in India.

The RPTO's inaugural offering is a DGCA-Certified Medium Class Drone Pilot Training Course, tailored to enhance the skills of youth in the North East and other regions of India. It also aims to empower women from self-help groups (SHGs) involved in agriculture, identified under the Namo Drone Didi Yojna. Graduates of the course will receive a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) sanctioned by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), allowing them to legally operate drones and pursue careers as Certified Drone Pilots.

Simultaneously, IIT Guwahati is spearheading a pioneering drone training initiative designed for diverse defense personnel. This innovative three-month program, a first in its category, is specifically crafted for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other officers, with the goal of modernizing the armed forces' operations. The curriculum emphasizes comprehensive training in various aspects of drone technologies, encompassing pilot training, software operations, and applications. Participants will acquire skills that can be applied to post-retirement career options, whether in the burgeoning drone industry or as technology entrepreneurs.

Talking about this, Parameswar K. Iyer, dean PRBR, IIT Guwahati, said, “Since the past three years IIT Guwahati has been dedicating itself to cultivate innovation and excellence in drone technology services, education, empowering organizations and individuals to emerge as leaders and pioneers in this swiftly advancing field. As we witness the rapid growth of the drone industry and the mounting demand for drone pilots, the Institute envisions extending drone education, entrepreneurial activity and manufacturing to every corner of India. Through this collaboration, our goal is to nurture a generation equipped with the skills and knowledge essential to excel in the realm of drone technology, thus driving forward progress and innovation in this dynamic field,” as quoted by The Financial Express.
