Amidst the scorching heat wave conditions prevailing in the region, the district collector of Sambalpur has announced revised schedules for schools in an effort to safeguard students and staff from the sweltering temperatures. Effective immediately, both private and government schools are directed to conduct classes between the cooler hours of 6.30 am and 10 am, aiming to minimize exposure to the oppressive heat.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by daily laborers working under the relentless sun, the district administration has imposed restrictions on their working hours. Daily wage earners are advised to refrain from outdoor activities between 11 am and 3.30 pm, a period when temperatures peak, posing health risks.
In anticipation of potential health emergencies arising from the heat wave, the administration has issued directives to hospitals across the district. Hospital authorities are instructed to establish dedicated sunstroke wards to promptly attend to patients affected by heat-related illnesses, ensuring swift medical intervention.
Also, proactive measures are being taken to address water scarcity concerns exacerbated by the soaring temperatures. Block Development Officers, Tehsildars, District Education Officers, and Block Education Officers have been tasked with setting up water kiosks and deploying water tankers in areas facing acute shortages, ensuring residents have access to essential resources during the heat wave.
This initiative follows earlier directives from the School and Mass Education department, mandating morning classes from 7 am to 11.30 am, effective April 2nd. These measures underscore the concerted efforts of local authorities to mitigate the impact of the hot and humid weather conditions, with the Special Relief Commissioner urging district collectors to prioritize the well-being of residents and prevent casualties amidst the challenging climate conditions.
