Shocking news hit the community as a second-year Pre-University student was found dead in her hostel room at a private college in Moodbidri. The victim, identified as 18-year-old CM Divya from Mysuru, allegedly took her own life due to the overwhelming pressure of health issues and fear of inadequate performance in the upcoming National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) examinations.
According to the complaint filed by her distraught parents at Moodbidri police station, Divya had been grappling with health concerns and plagued by anxiety about her imminent exams. Scheduled for Sunday, May 5, these exams became a heavy burden on her troubled mind.
Late on Saturday night, May 4, tragedy struck when hostel authorities made a harrowing discovery in Divya's room. The young student had hanged herself from the ceiling fan.
Coinciding with this distressing incident, news emerged from Gurugram that a 20-year-old nursing student had also allegedly taken her own life in her hostel room in the Sector 31 area. These unfortunate occurrences cast a somber light on the struggles faced by students pursuing their education.
These incidents call for heightened attention to the mental health and well-being of students, both by educational institutions and society as a whole. Easy access to timely support, counseling, and interventions is crucial, particularly during these critical academic periods.
Our hearts go out to the grieving families and friends of the departed students as they navigate the profound sorrow caused by these tragic losses.
