Kerala's General Education Department is making a big push for student well-being, focusing on physical and mental health and ensuring inclusivity for children with disabilities.
A first-of-its-kind "inclusive sports manual" has been developed to cultivate the athletic talents of students with disabilities and create a level playing field for participation. During a press conference, Education Minister V Sivankutty announced this groundbreaking initiative, highlighting its national significance.
This year, they will conduct competitions designed based on the guidelines outlined in the manual, Sivankutty revealed. This move comes alongside the "Healthy Kids" program, which promotes physical and mental wellness among primary school students through engaging sports and games. Developed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the program boasts curriculum committee approval and dedicated textbooks.
Recognizing the unique needs of autistic children, the state is investing Rs 37.80 crore to establish Model Autism Complexes in all 14 districts. This commitment extends to a comprehensive "inclusive education" program valued at Rs 121.21 crore, specifically designed to support differently-abled students.
Beyond these significant announcements, the annual school sports meet is set for a makeover. Scheduled for October 18th-22nd in Ernakulam, the event aims to transform into an Olympics-style extravaganza, bringing together athletes and various sporting disciplines.
