Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is today a recognised global public health threat and a ‘silent pandemic’. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), India, has been advocating a global AMR response that aligns with the challenges faced by countries of the Global South and offers executable solutions. Our work and point of view can be seen here.

In September this year, future global action against AMR will be agreed upon at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA); a political declaration is expected to be adopted at the UNGA’s High-Level Meeting on AMR. Presently, the draft of this declaration is being worked upon and negotiated among Member States. The discussions must be adequately informed about the priorities of Low- and middle-income countries, which vary due to the different drivers.

CSE has recently organised an international workshop for LMICs with extensive involvement of experts and stakeholders from African and Asian countries. The key takeaways from the rich and insightful workshop deliberations are presented in CSE’s new report, ‘Priorities of Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) to inform the High-Level Meeting on AMR at UNGA 2024’. We invite you to a webinar to discuss and release this report.

The webinar will include a panel discussion where experts will share their reflections and perspectives on the way ahead because of the ongoing negotiations. The broad areas of discussion would be the financing of national action plans, the funding of antibiotic R&D and access, the transformation of food systems through the preventive approach, and the management of antibiotic pollution from manufacturing, targets, and their enablers and challenges at the national level.
