The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a unique initiative offering free entry to Amrit Udyan, formerly known as the Mughal Gardens, for students and faculty members until September 15, 2024.

This initiative is designed to promote the appreciation of nature and cultural heritage among academic communities, aligning with UGC's broader efforts to encourage educational engagement with historical sites.

This opportunity began on August 16 and will continue through September 15, 2024. Visitors can access the gardens through Gate No. 35 of the Rashtrapati Bhavan near North Avenue. While the gardens will be open to the public throughout this period, special access has been arranged for two specific days—August 29 and September 5—reserved for particular events. These days, the gardens will be accessible to students and faculty, though entry may be restricted to the general public.

Beyond the experience of strolling through the meticulously maintained Amrit Udyan, visitors can also explore the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum. This museum offers a rich glimpse into the history and legacy of India’s presidential residence. Interested individuals must book their slots online in advance to visit the museum. The UGC has worked to streamline the entry process, ensuring all visitors enjoy a hassle-free and enriching experience.

The UGC’s initiative is about more than just offering free access; it represents a thoughtful effort to integrate nature and history into the educational experience. By opening Amrit Udyan to students and faculty, the UGC aims to create opportunities for learning outside the classroom, encouraging a connection to the environment and cultural heritage. This initiative reflects a commitment to fostering well-rounded education, where academic institutions are seen as centres of knowledge and gateways to a broader understanding of the world.

Through this initiative, the UGC provides an invaluable opportunity for students and faculty to deepen their appreciation for India’s natural and historical treasures while enjoying a unique educational outing that extends beyond the traditional confines of textbooks and classrooms.
