The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out the possibility of gang rape in the August 9 incident involving the murder and rape of a 31-year-old female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata.
According to sources speaking to NDTV, the available evidence only implicates Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer who was already arrested. The CBI is actively investigating the case.
In response to the development, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) took to social media platform X, criticizing the delay in the chargesheet and demanding immediate legal action. "We now demand that the chargesheet be filed and the accused be put on trial WITHOUT DELAY. Anything less is an insult to the victim's memory!" the party tweeted.
NDTV’s exclusive report reveals that the CBI inquiry is nearing completion, with charges expected to be filed soon. A medical report containing the accused's DNA has been sent to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, for analysis. Additionally, over 100 statements have been recorded, and ten polygraph tests have been conducted, including one involving Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar.
Pressure has been mounting on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the ruling TMC to expedite the investigation amid scrutiny from opposition parties such as the BJP. The case has prompted intense political and public attention, underscoring the demand for swift justice for the victim.
