The Supreme Court of India, on September 13, addressed a petition filed by 19 NEET-PG 2024 aspirants demanding more transparency in the examination process.
A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud notified the National Board of Examination for Medical Sciences (NBEMS) regarding releasing the exam answer keys. The next hearing is scheduled for September 20.
The court's decision has relieved many candidates concerned about rank inflation, percentile discrepancies, and a lack of transparency in the results. Notably, the case was not dismissed, unlike other exam-related petitions. NEET-PG candidates hope the upcoming hearing will clarify issues such as scorecards and the normalisation process.
Dr Reema Singh, an MBBS degree holder and NEET-PG aspirant, expressed relief over the court's decision, stating, "It’s a big relief for us that the case wasn't dismissed. We’re now awaiting the next hearing to address concerns about tallying marks and transparency."
Dr Naizam Nazar, a general practitioner from Kerala, suggested that future NEET-PG exams allow at least seven days for candidates to raise complaints about controversial questions. He also recommended that NBEMS release individual answer responses to enable candidates to cross-check their results.
Candidates are now hopeful for reforms in the exam process, with greater transparency and fairness expected in the future.
