Manipur Education Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh has raised alarms over the involvement of some individuals allegedly persuading students to participate in unauthorised protests. At a press conference on Tuesday, Singh urged that students be kept from such rallies and called on the public to ensure educational institutions remain free from disruptive activities.

Singh voiced concern about the interference of unauthorised groups in educational settings, particularly condemning a planned meeting by the All Manipur Students at Dhanamanjuri University on September 18. The minister labelled the meeting as illegal, citing the absence of necessary permissions, and warned of impending legal action. "It is very unfortunate that these individuals are entering educational campuses and urging students to join unauthorised demonstrations," Singh said.

He emphasised the government's stance against the meeting, asserting that appropriate legal and preventive measures would be implemented to curb such activities. Singh highlighted that classes have recently resumed, stressing the importance of students remaining in classrooms during school hours.

Additionally, Singh noted that the department aims to complete 229 class days for the academic year. To date, 153 days have been completed, with 19 days lost due to floods, natural disasters, and social unrest. An investigation is currently underway to track and identify the organisers of the unauthorised meeting. Singh called on legitimate student organisations to support efforts to maintain a disruption-free education sector and urged parents to provide proper guidance to their children.
